Hybrid Marble Male
This pretty male came out of my Hybrid 01 A spawn. At the time of breeding he had the nicest pinks and a tail similar to all of his brothers. Since then he has turned mostly blue, and his tail has grown a little wonky. Had I waited unil they were older I probably wouldn't have chosen him to spawn, but we will wait to see if his tail shape is genetic.
Yellow Spade Tail Female
This girl was imported from Franks Bettas. I really like her shape and feisty nature. She has the temperament of a true betta! She is a little more red then my other Yellow Spadetail, so I am curious how that will develop in the fry. Overall she is a wonderful representation of wild betta.
Goals
This is the second generation of hybrids! I've decided to pair back to a full wild female that carries the spade tail gene. I'd like to focus on getting prominent pointed tails with generation, and not worrying on color at this time.
Continue the excellent form of the first generation
Larger spade tail points
Colorful base

This has been one of my slower growing spawns, almost as slow as my full wild spawn! I am unsure if that is a correlation, but I am going to start keeping track of growth speed vs wild percentage to see if that is common. I am also seeing a correlation between size and how wild they look. The ones who look full wild are significantly smaller then those who look more like domestic bettas.
I am still seeing a head bump on many of them which is disappointing. It does nothing to affect their QOL but is something I try to avoid. I've been chatting in the breeder groups about it and have decided I may continue this line, but only pairing with a super high quality plakat to hopefully correct that for the next generation.
I have one male who grew nicely and a few females, hopefully between them I'll be able to choose faster growing bettas for the next gen.
(Also these gals are incredibly difficult to photograph .... They lose all their color as soon as they hit the phototank. They are mostly bright yellow and red in the ponds!
I rearranged my set up and moved the pond into a green house. There is now more consistent heat and protection from the elements. I've seen some more growth and color shifts! I am a bit nervous about their head shape, and will continue monitoring.
The fry moved from my 10g spawn pond to their own 25 gallon shallow pond. Dad has been removed. So far there are a few who are growing very well and some that are behind. I expect that the behind ones may get eaten by their older siblings. Everyone is yellow, which makes sense given that their dad is half yellow spadetail, and the mom is full yellow
